It seems the hype of the new, next-gen consoles have caused a plethora of gamers to visit online retailer Amazon and made sure that they secured their favorite platform’s console.
According to Amazon PR’s firm, Weber Shandwick.
Last week, the Amazon Video Games store made history with its biggest pre-order week ever thanks to the launch of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In fact, at the peak of demand last week, Amazon customers were pre-ordering more than 2,500 Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles per minute.
· The E3 week pre-orders of the two wildly-anticipated gaming consoles brought a year-over-year increase in orders of more than 4,000%, compared to consoles ordered during E3 week last year
· Day-one pre-orders for the two consoles was nearly two times that of all video games sales on Black Friday last year (2012)
The fact that the day one pre-orders for the two consoles was nearly two times that of all video game sales on Black Friday of 2012 shows just how many of these consoles have been pre-ordered. Black Friday is known as one of the best days for sales and the fact that millions clammer to their closest supermarket, or shopping mall to buy products (a reasonable percentage being gamers) shows how large the amount of gamers pre-ordering the next-gen consoles are.
If you look at the Amazon bestseller list and also in terms of general popularity from gamers, it seems that the PS4 had the majority of the pre-orders from last week, however the fact that Microsoft have officially removed most of the features that angered gamers such as their used game policy, the Xbox One’s pre-orders may start to see an increase, at least thats what Microsoft is hoping.
The has been much speculation on the release date of Sony’s PS4, and while it has not been officially announced it has been rumoured to be November 21st 2013. the Xbox One is also expected to come out in November 2013.
